JANUARY ZOOM MEETINGS FOR MT. LAUREL LIBRARY

PLEASE NOTE:  OUR FIRST FILM DISCUSSION HAS BEEN CHANGED.

Sunday the 10th  2PM

Because our scheduled film, TOPSY-TURVY has left the streaming service, we'll be watching a different movie.

THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG.  Because TOPSY-TURVY is a colorful film about music, I selected another memorable movie, this one featuring a wonderful score by Oscar-winner Michel Legrand, and eye-popping color cinematography.  This moving love story is the film that catapulted the lovely Catherine Deneuve to stardom, and features the hit songs "I Will Wait for You" and "Watch What Happens."

You can stream THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG on Kanopy, and it's also available on The Criterion Channel or HBO Max (with a subscription) or you can rent it from Amazon Prime.

If you've already registered, you're set.  If you haven't yet done so, the link is right below.

Thursday   14   7 pm  New Orleans Music    In Search of the Mardi Gras Indians

The story of how African Americans spend all year sewing dazzling costumes so they can dress up as Native Americans for Carnival, when they sing and dance through the streets.  Lots of music and plenty of colorful photos of feathers and beads!

To register, click this link.

Saturday  16th  2 PM    POETRY  Our monthly discussion of classic and contemporary poetry.  The day before our meeting, you'll receive the poems in your email with the zoom link.  Always a lively discussion.

Saturday  23rd   2 pm   MUSIC

All the Best:  The Songs of John Prine.       Join a discussion of the American singer/songwriter who produced what critic Robert Christgau calls "big houseful of first-rate" tunes and lyrics, including such favorites as "Angel from Montgomery" and "Paradise."

To register click this link.

Tuesday  26th  7 pm   Virtual Film Forum

NIGHT OF THE SHOOTING STARS  (1982)  Paolo and Vittorio Taviani directed this magical blend of comedy, fantasy, and tragedy.  In the last days of WWII, townspeople flee the path of destruction the retreating Nazis have created, and steal through the countryside in search of the American liberators.
