Director David Fincher’s carefully researched, fact-based account of the manhunt for a notorious serial killer is also impeccably cast—the ensemble includes Jake Gyllenhal, Robert Downey, Jr., and Mark Ruffalo.  Roger Ebert said of this sleeper, “The film is a police procedural crossed with a newspaper movie, but free of most of the cliches of either.”  Available for streaming on Kanopy, Hoopla, Amazon, Paramount, Vudu, Apple, and others.

Thursday, September 16   7 pm    MUSIC:  MAGIC MOMENTS WITH DOC POMUS. 

This legendary songwriter started as a blues singer, and then provided a string of hits for a variety of recording artists, such as The Coasters, Dion and the Belmonts, The Everly Brothers, Ray Charles, B.B. King, and Dr. John.  Six of his songs were chart hits for Elvis Presley.  We’ll examine his colorful life and career while listening to some blues, rock, and soul compositions he created.

Thursday, September 30    7 pm   MUSIC: DREAMS TO REMEMBER: THE SOUL OF OTIS REDDING

In his brief career, Otis transformed rhythm and blues with his aching voice and funky rhythm, moving audiences from the chitlin circuit of the South to the hippies at Monterey Pop.  We’ll listen to some of his greatest interpretations of his heroes’ music, and the hits he composed himself.
